About

This is the third iteration of sphericalpanoramas.com, my panoramic image gallery.
Almost as soon as I got my first DSLR camera in 2005, I immersed myself in the world of spherical panoramas. There was already a lively community of panoramic photographers who shared their knowledge and experience with newcomers to this highly technical field. Especially in the early years, one often had to make or adapt some of the panorama specific hardware. Professor Helmut Dersch provided the first software tools for making and viewing these images and his work remains the foundation for almost all panorama related applications that followed.

Normally, the photographer decides what part of a scene will be viewed. To a large extent, this point of view represents the art and craft of the photographer. In spherical panoramas, it is up to the viewer to decide what to focus on and it becomes the task of the photographer to offer up something interesting, no matter where the viewer decides to look. When successful, it becomes an immersive experience, an act of seduction even.

The panoramas are best viewed fullscreen. Some of the thumbnails in the gallery link to a "vr tour" with multiple panoramas. In that case a new browser page is created and clicking on the gallery button will present a mini gallery of all panoramas in that vr tour.

Some technical info and usefull links can be found here.
